How to Play Pattern Reasoning
Find the missing piece by analyzing the rules hidden in a 3x3 matrix. Similar to Raven's Progressive Matrices used in IQ tests.
Example
Shape: row / Size: col / Count: col
Pattern Attributes
Shape- 10 types: circle, square, triangle, diamond, star, hexagon, cross, arrow, pentagon, heart
Size- 3 levels: small, medium, large
Fill- 6 types: solid, empty (outline only), striped, dotted, crosshatch, half
Color- 6 colors: red, blue, green, amber, purple, teal
Count- Number of shapes: 1, 2, or 3
Rotation- 4 angles: 0, 90, 180, 270 degrees
Inner Pattern- 3 types: none, line (clock hand), fork (Y-shape)
How It Works
- 1Look at the 3x3 grid. The bottom-right cell is missing.
- 2Find the rule for each attribute: does it stay constant, change by row, by column, diagonally, in a checkerboard, concentric, or spiral pattern?
- 3Apply the rules to determine what the missing piece should look like.
- 4Select the correct answer from 6 choices.
Difficulty Guide
Easy3 attributes change with simple row/column and checkerboard patterns
Medium4-5 attributes change including diagonal and concentric patterns
HardAll 7 attributes change with diagonal, concentric, and spiral patterns. Only 1 attribute differs between choices.
Tips
- •Start by comparing cells in the same row - what changes column to column?
- •Then compare cells in the same column - what changes row to row?
- •On hard mode, look for diagonal, concentric, and spiral patterns too
- •Eliminate wrong answers by checking one attribute at a time
